Salisbury Steak

Sometimes comfort food is the only meal that will satisfy.  I've learned to make it taste like Grandmother made it but without the 'all day' cooking style she taught me.

This recipe is a family favorite when comfort is desired!  And when I use lean meat and then follow the recipe for the gravy instead of using the pan drippings, I can even find comfort in the calorie count!

2 pounds ground beef
4 tablespoons My Favorite Roast Seasoning
1 egg
1 cup bread crumbs
1/3 cup water
1 tablespoon Worcestershire® sauce

12 tablespoons White Sauce Blend
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 1/2 cups water
4 tablespoons My Favorite Roast Seasoning Blend
1 teaspoon Worcestershire® sauce
4.5 oz jar sliced mushrooms

  1. In a large bowl, combine the 6 ingredients for the patties, combining thoroughly.
  2. Divide into 6 equal portions and flatten into patty shapes
  3. In a large skillet, cook patties until well done.  Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, combine all of the gravy ingredients.  Cook on medium high heat, stirring constantly until the gravy begins to boil.  Reduce heat and simmer on low for 5 minutes, still stirring. Gravy will thicken as it cook, so add water as necessary for desired consistency.
  5. Return the patties to the pan and simmer for a few more minutes.
  6. Serve patties with gravy.
Serves 6

Fill the Freezer:
This meal freezes well, so make a double or triple batch while you have the ingredients out and the stove heated up.  Take the extra portions (cooked) and freeze them in sealed freezer bags.  Put 6 patties and the gravy in the bags, remove air before sealing so they will lay flat in the freezer. Be sure to label bags with recipe name and date and instructions to reheat either in microwave or stove top.
