For years I have used a prepackaged taco seasoning mix simply because I thought the family wouldn't like tacos any other way. Same brand, same tacos for over 25 years. In fact, it was the same brand I grew up on. Recently I noticed a variety of taco seasoning blends being posted on various blogs, so I decided to give them a try to see if I could end the prepackaged legacy.
After some testing and tweaking, I found a blend that my family adores (aka...they didn't know I switched things up on them until I told them) and I'm now spending pennies per serving instead of a dollar or so a package.
One of the ingredients that really added a depth of flavor is the beef soup base. It wasn't in most of the recipes I sifted through, but definitely worth adding!
Here is my new favorite Taco Seasoning Blend. (not to be confused with my Taco Soup blend that will be featured in the up coming new eCookbook!)
4 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons cumin
4 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon beef soup base powder
1 tablespoon cornstarch
4 teaspoons black pepper
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon oregano
Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container with other spices and seasoning blends.
